In response to the food crisis in Nigeria, three significant events took place recently involving ActionAid Nigeria.
On Monday, 9 June, ActionAid Nigeria organised a policy dialogue on: “The food Situation in Nigeria: The Way Forward.”
The discussion brought together representatives of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, including high-level representation from the National Strategic Food Reserve, USAID, farmers organisations and networks, the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mining and Agriculture (NACCIMA), the umbrella organisation for the organised private sector, international development agencies, the mass media and food rights activists.
Although government has officially denied a food crisis, instead acknowledging increases in the prices of common staples, participants at the meeting agreed the Nigerian situation was at a crisis point.
